Words Izzy knows

On December 12, 2009, in Kid, by Wendy

Isadora understands many more words than she can say. We are always amazed by the things she picks up on. for example, I was going to be home late one night because of a big project at work. Mitch was explaining to friends that “Wendy” wasn’t coming home tonight. He was careful to use Wendy instead of Mama because he assumed she didn’t know my name. Well, lo and behold, she did know that am Wendy and as soon as he finished talking, Izzy looked up from playing and said, “no Mama?” Doesn’t that just break your heart?

Izzy is jabbering up a storm. Lots of babble and tons of coherent words used in the right context. Here’s a list of words she diliberately uses:

I’m a little sad that she won’t say the cats names yet. She knows which cat is which, but won’t address them by name.

I think I heard her say something that sounded like Anneke last night, but I wasn’t able to coax a repeat performance.

She also parrots a ton of words too numerous to list here. I’ll I can say is no more cussing in front of Izzy.

I’m just so blown away by the things she retains now–and not just words. five nights ago, a neighbor stopped by for a brief visit. She sang a song in French while teaching Izzy a little dance that goes along with it. Izzy is still dancing the little jig that Vera taught her on Monday.

I’m really loving the toddler days.

UPDATE:

Mitch sent me a text…

Add guitar and rock to the list. When I was rocking on the chair she pointed to me and said ‘rock’, then I asked “walk or rock?” and she pointed at her rocking horse and said “rock” then walked over to it, got on, started rocking and said it again.

So many new words everyday. I don’t think I’ll be able to keep up with the list. The next report I post about her emerging language skills will be about word combos or short sentences.
