Well, it wasn’t really that strange. It was a lot of fun and quite beautiful. I wonder what a dream interpreter would think.

I was sitting in my apartment with Isadora, Allyson and Anneke. I heard loud music and thought it was a neighbor blasting Souxie and the Banshees on her stereo. The music kept getting louder so I went to investigate.

Souxie was actually having a musical procession in my building. It was an act of community service for hours she was assigned because she was caught carrying a concealed weapon. (I know! Totally weird detail!)

The music and singing was so lovely. Then there was this moment were Souxie, Yowa Yowa, and a handful of her entourage did a beautifully choreographed levitation dance.

When the performance was over, I headed back to my apartment. I ran into Souxie near the elevator and thanked her for the lovely performance and she hugged me.

Saturday started out as a lovely day. Izzy woke early and we headed out to MacCaulay Park. We brought snacks and sidewalk chalk and had lots of fun drawing on the ground.

She insisted on adding whiskers to everything I drew.

Even the fish and the octopus got whiskers.

We stopped by Goodwill and found some new books for Izzy. She’s really losing interest in her baby board books, so now I’m stocking up on little kid story books. She really likes her new books but can’t seem to get enough of The Aristocats, The Little Mermaid and The Jungle Book. In fact, I have to read those stories every day. It’s a good thing I like them.

Isadora fell asleep on the way home, and transfer to crib was successful. I went into the kitchen to putter around. Mitch went to a neighbor’s house to hang out and was going to pick up a decaf latte for me from Farm Table (yum!) a little later.

While I was checking email, FaceBook, etc. I heard a terrible sound coming from outside. I can’t see the street from my apartment unless I stand on my dining room table, and only then just get a sliver of the north side. The sound was so upsetting, like an animal crying out in extreme pain, and I had a completely visceral reaction. I was shaking and started sobbing uncontrollably.

I looked out to see a woman holding a limp dog in her arms and she was screaming and crying and asking for help. It just broke my heart because I wanted to help her, but I couldn’t leave Izzy home alone to go out there to see what I could to help.

I kept seeing people approach her and then turn away. What the hell was wrong with these people? Why weren’t they helping her? I called Mitch and asked him to go down and see if he could help her get a cab, drive her to the vet, do anything to just MAKE THE SCREAMING STOP.

I began to understand that she let her dog walk off leash and he dashed into the traffic and got hit by a car. I was simply heart sick by the animal’s cries of pain and of the woman’s cries of anguish.

I started playing the “what if” game in my mind. What if Izzy broke free from me and ran into the street and was run over by a car? What if that was me holding her limp body, asking for help, and people turned away? I almost threw up I was so distraught.

Finally, a Fire Truck showed up to take control of the situation and Mitch came home to report what he learned. He, along with several other citizens, hailed several cabs and offered to give her money to take her and that poor suffering dog to a vet to get fixed up. She refused everything, which is why people were turning and walking away. She wanted to wait until Animal Care and Control would show up (even if it was going to more than an hour) to take the dog away so they could destroy instead of going to a vet for help. She apparently couldn’t afford the vet bills. More than an hour! To let that dog suffer, and let the people of the neighborhood live in her distress, for what? To not pay a vet bill?

I later learned that people called 911 for help. She wasted so many resources for no discernible reason other than getting rid of her pet who was no longer cute.

I am outraged by this woman’s lack of care for her animal. To let a dog walk off leash in this neighborhood, where cabs, buses and cars drive 50 miles an hour to make the next green light is just irresponsible. To take the life of an animal under your care because it’s cute and fun, but with no plans to see to it’s health and well being is just unconscionable. If you can’t afford to take care of your animal, then don’t get one.

I still can’t shake the sound of that dog crying.

I bought some of these amazing containers at Bed Bath and Beyond a couple of months ago as a replacement to for my Debbie Meyer Green Bags. I loved the bags and they worked, but were a total pain in the butt to wash between uses and I still had stacks of unknown produce in my fridge.

The Always Fresh containers totally work! I had strawberries last over 8 days. The spinach was still good 10 days in. And the Blueberries? 2 weeks! Pretty amazing if you ask me. The best part is that the containers stack so nicely in my tiny little fridge. I can fit more food in there than before, and it’s easier for Mitch to know what we have because I use masking tape and a Sharpie to mark what’s inside. When not in use, the containers nestle within one another.

They sell for $9.99 at Bed Bath and Beyond, but a total steal when you use your 20% off coupon.

Last night, we went to a party at Elena’s house and Izzy crammed the crackers she didn’t want to eat into my bra. She dug them out later and ate them.

While we were sitting on the floor playing tonight, she toddled over, grabbed the top of my shirt and pulled it open and safely deposited her beloved supply cup in there.

it’s pretty cute and funny now, but I can’t wait another 12 years or so until she has her own bra to use as a pocket. I need pockets now! I deplore you.

BTW: I will have a table set up and selling my wares. Stop by and say hi. If you mention you saw my blog posting, I’ll give you 25% off anything you buy from me.

I have a whole bunch of stuff to choose from that is suitable for 0-18 months. Most items are in excellent used to mint condition. Clothes are in good to excellent used condition. There are even quite a few things that are new, without tags. I washed everything, but Izzy outgrew some items before she ever had a chance to wear them. I inspected everything last night and all clothing should be free from stains or tears.

I must be the odd one out. The people I’ve come across when trying to sell Izzy’s stuff are the biggest flakes I have ever met in my life! What a time suck. So many people write to inquire about an item. Emails and phone calls back and forth to set up a viewing/purchase time. And it all leads to no shows and cancellations. You people are driving me nuts!

A few years ago, I ran across this great pattern for a Scotty Dog. I used it to make a little pup for Ethan. It’s a simple pattern and quite easy to make.

I had a really crummy week at work, so I knew the only way I was going to get over it was to craft it out. I had some fleece left over, so I pulled out the Scotty Dog pattern and went to town. I made a pack of puppies for Izzy and her friends.

Even though I used the same pattern, they all came out different. Wabi sabi. That’s the beauty of hand made.

This one is for Anneke, Izzy’s best friend forever. Anneke loves orange, or at least I think she does. She has a few orange things, so I’m carrying on the tradition.

This one is for Gracie, Izzy’s newest friend. Mitch finally met another At-Home Dad and was lucky enough to meet one with a daughter the same age as Izzy.

This one is for Dylan, Auntie Shelly’s nephew. We haven’t met him yet, but he sure does look cute in his photos! I wanted this to be a surprise for Shelly, but I also wanted to get this posted today. I may be in luck considering that she’s in Mexico right now, and hopefully too busy having fun and not sitting in an internet cafe somewhere looking at Kid N Kitties.

Finally, here’s the pup for Izzy

Izzy had fun playing with the pack of puppies today. Hopefully she won’t be too upset when her plethora of pups dwindles down to one.

When the kids get a little older, they’re all going to get one of <a href="http://www.instructables.com/id/Baby-Dragon-Cape/" target=_"blank">these. It’s going to be fun to customize each one in their favorite colors. But first, I have four other things on my sewing to do list before I can get started on this.
