7 pounds 15 ounces
19 inches long

She is the most awesome creature I have ever met, and I am head over heels madly in love with her.

When we arrived at the hospital for my schedule c-section, we were put in one of the prep rooms and were expected to hang out for a couple of hours. I was hooked up to a monitor that measures the baby’s heart rate and my contractions if any. Considering I was scheduled for a c-section several days before the baby was due, I didn’t expect that the monitor would pick up any contractions.

Well, lo and behold, while I was waiting for my turn in surgery, I went in to labor. I didn’t feel the contractions at first. And then I did. *dramatic reverb*

Sitting there with my first few contractions made me very unhappy. I don’t think Mitch or I would have made it to the other side of a vaginal delivery the same people. Aside from being medically necessary and the safest course of action for both me and the baby, I really am glad that I had a c-section instead of a vaginal delivery.

The day was unhurried; we were able to go to the hospital under relatively stress-free conditions. The surgery went off without complications, and the baby was delivered quickly. So far, we’ve been blessed with the sweetest, most even-tempered kidlet. I think a lot of her personality was kicked off by this mellow and easy experience. I’m expecting that she’ll continue on in her merry mellowness. That is until she turns 13 years old. Then all bets are off. 😉

As long as I stay on a pain management program, I’ll be just fine. It’s only my fourth day since surgery, and for the most part, I’m up and about and taking care of myself and the baby. I’m also being realistic and asking Mitch for help when I need it. And being the awesome husband and dad that he is, he is gladly giving it.

I love my new little family more than anything in the world.

Kirby Sling

Cat left another bag of goodies on the door–a button down plaid shirt, p.j.s, and three sweatshirts. There was also an Infantino sling. Doesn’t Kirby look great!?

We’re ready.

We set up the nursery in the hallway. It’s the best location in the apartment with the most consistent temperature–no drafts, no direct sunlight. It is also central to the apartment. No need for a monitor. We’ll be able to hear anything from either the living room or the bedroom. The crib, cart and diaper pail hardly take up any room. We used to keep an Ikea Lack table in that space, so we don’t even notice the difference. We can even access the closet without having to move anything.

Here’s the view from the front door:

The photos were taken during a very rare occurrence wherein Murky was not laying on the change table. She really only leaves the crib when it is absolutely necessary.

T minus 20 hours and counting…

I am scheduled for a c-section. Peanut will enter the world tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.

I can hardly wait to meet her.

Congratulations Sheri and Terry!

Sheri went into labor two weeks early and gave birth to her daughter this morning around 12:30. Too bad we’re in different hospitals. It would have been fun to have a friend staying the same time as me.

Baby Shower Recap.

On May 2, 2008, in Miscellany, by Wendy

The day started out pretty amazing. Kirsten and I headed over to Cafe Royale to set up for the party. I took a small break to stretch my legs, and was looking out the window. I spotted someone walking by the window and the sight just made me squeal! JOHN WATERS was in the neighborhood. I knew that he loves to shop at Kayo Books, and always hoped to spot him and today was the day.

Unfortunately, I don’t handle star sightings well. Kirsten and Dan kept telling me to go next door and say hello. I just couldn’t do it so Dan went next door, and invited John to the shower. He declined, but Dan returned with a well wish…

When Mitch came down to the Royale, I told him that John Waters was next door. He went to the shop and took a sneaky little photo of John perusing the stacks.

The Baby Shower was one of the best parties I have ever had! It was beautiful day. The food we had catered from Askew Grill was delicious. Everyone had such a great time. The party started to wind down around 4:00, which was great because I was getting a little tired. Then, in comes the second round of guests! We ended up having a six hour party! I was wiped out at the end of the day.

If you took photos, please send them to me. I didn’t take any.

37 weeks and 4 days

Peanut’s profile. She was sucking on her fingers during the sonogram today.

37 weeks and 4 days

I can’t believe it’s almost time for Peanut to come in to the world. I’ve really enjoyed being pregnant despite the gestational diabetes and high blood pressure issues. I told Mitch that had I known how much I liked being pregnant, I would have done it sooner and more often. I just hope that I enjoy being a parent as much as I have loved being a pregnant lady.
